Students in Jean Schroeder’s classroom at Grass Valley Elementary School earned special recognition when two students were named winners of the Veterans of Foreign Wars State Youth Essay Contest.
The essay theme “How I Respect the American Flag” prompted many students in the class to participate. Two students, Samantha Banwarth and Harper Cicero, were selected as state-level winners.
On January 8, Veterans from our local VFW visited Grass Valley Elementary to present the awards in person, recognizing both the winners and the thoughtful work of all students who entered.
