Become a School Bus Driver

Driving a school bus is a serious and rewarding profession—and Camas School District (CSD) is looking for both substitute and regular drivers to join our team! The Perks of Driving for CSD

  • Paid Training: We provide comprehensive training for your CDL Class B with all necessary endorsements.

  • Incentive Bonus: Do you have a current CDL with S endorsement? Camas School District is offering a $2,000 signing bonus; $1,000 paid once hired and the additional $1,000 after completing 480 hours behind the wheel. Starting wage is $33.15/hour or more depending on years of experience.

  • Are you interested in becoming a school bus driver and being hired for a permanent route? Or just interested in working part-time? We have driver trainers on staff to ensure you secure your CDL with endorsement. Camas School District is offering $1,000 Hiring Bonus; $500 after securing CDL & additional $500 after completing 480 hours behind the wheel.  

  • Ideal Schedule: Be home when students are off for holidays and school vacations. Work mornings, afternoons, or all day.

  • Modern Fleet: Drive new equipment featuring automatic transmissions.

  • Great Pay & Benefits:

    • $33.15/hour for transportation floater and relief drivers (regular drivers).

    • $26.20/hour for driver substitutes.

    • $18.00/hour during your behind-the-wheel and classroom training.

Hours of Work

  • School Year Schedule: Drivers generally work 180 days a year with summers off.

  • Paid Holidays: Enjoy 11 paid holidays.

  • Split Shifts: Routes typically run from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • Extra Hours: Opportunities for additional pay through field trips, athletic events, and chartered services.

Requirements for Drivers

To join our team, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age/Education: At least 21 years of age; High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of driving experience in any vehicle or 1 year of commercial driving experience.

  • Driving Record: A safe driving record demonstrated on a 5-year driving abstract.

  • Background & Health: Must pass an FBI background check, a CDL physical, and a pre-employment drug test (including THC).

  • Licensing: Ability to obtain a WA State Class B CDL with School Bus, Passenger, and Air Brake endorsements (paid training provided).

  • Vaccination: Must maintain vaccinations in accordance with district policies and state health regulations.

Progressive Training Program

CSD offers an intensive training program led by instructors certified by the Department of Licensing (DOL) and OSPI. We cover the costs for:

  • First Aid/CPR Training

  • DOT Medical Exams & Drug Testing

  • CDL Training & Test Fees

  • Fingerprinting & Background Checks

  • Permit & Licensing Fees (CDL Permit, Endorsements, and New License)
