On October 20, Brittany Stephens’ 3rd-grade class at Lacamas Lake Elementary celebrated the start of Diwali—the festival of lights! One student’s family visited the classroom to share their traditions, teaching students about the meaning and customs of this special holiday. Each child even painted and decorated their own diya, a small oil lamp that symbolizes light overcoming darkness.
