Papermakers have faced five ranked opponents in first six matches

CAMAS — To get a jump on the season, the Camas volleyball team stacks the early part of its schedule with tough opponents.

And the Papermakers don’t have to look far to find them.

Camas took down perennial Class 2A power Columbia River in four sets on Monday in the latest chapter in a budding volleyball rivalry.

Camas is ranked No. 2 in the latest Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association Class 4A poll. In their first six matches, the Papermakers have faced five top-10 teams in their respective classifications.

That includes Ridgefield (No. 4 in 2A), Emerald Ridge (No. 5 in 4A), Olympia (No. 10 in 4A) and Kelso (No. 9 in 3A). But no early-season win was coveted by Camas (5-1) as much as taking down the Rapids, who have won the past four 2A state titles and are ranked No. 1 in the latest coaches poll.
