Woodburn PBIS – The Way of the Wolf

At Woodburn, our mission is to Nurture. Inspire. Achieve. Every Child. Every Day. Central to our mission is our schoolwide implementation of PBIS. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, and social-emotional development.

PBIS is taught in the classroom and schoolwide with expectations for behavior in all settings that creates a culture of respect, care, and kindness.

At key points in the school year we teach and practice expected behaviors in all settings, from the classroom to walking in the hallways to recess. Visual and verbal reminders of expected behaviors are posted throughout our school to help remind students and provide opportunities for re-teaching.

We believe that through teaching, practice, feedback, and encouragement, students will grow in confidence and success and collectively work to maintain a positive, inclusive culture at Woodburn. Students (and adults) will make mistakes and here we believe through restorative conversations and processes, students can grow in their learning, self-awareness, and development of empathy and understanding of others.

At Woodburn, our PBIS schoolwide expectations are:

  • Be respectful

  • Be responsible

  • Be safe

As students demonstrate their personal successes, teachers and staff encourage their growth through our schoolwide reward system. Our “Way of the Wolf” green tickets are the central way students are recognized for their positive behavior and efforts. Students receive green tickets when they are following expected behaviors. We have a number of ways we use green tickets to include individual classroom rewards, weekly drawings from our green ticket bin in the lunchroom, and some of our student leaders pulling names and announcing them schoolwide on Fridays and students coming to Ms. Murray’s office for prizes, including school spirit wear! Many students are also selected to sign our Way of the Wolf Success Book with Mr. Parman. These are just a few of the ways we try to create support for your child’s personal growth, teach high expectations, and build strong relationships and school community.
