Science Olympiad: Grades (4-5)

Advisor: Molly Sims

The Science Olympiad Program culminates in a competitive regional tournament for qualifying teams.  All participating students practice problem-solving and working creatively to address challenge activities after school, and the school is allowed to bring 15 to the final event. Information goes home in the fall.  We typically have more students interested than there is the capacity which is why the grade levels are limited.

Woodburn Robotics: (Grades 2 & 5)

Advisor: Nicole Hanley & Kristi DaMassa

This is a 5-week program in the Spring for students interested in advanced robotics.  Students participating in robotics in class or during after-school activities are invited.  If more students apply than room allows, students are selected by lottery.  Students practice after school and then culminate with a district competition event against the other elementary school clubs.

Student Equity Team: (Grades 1st-5th)

Advisor: Claire Murray

One Wednesday per month, Woodburn students meet after school to brainstorm fun ways to help all students feel like they belong at Woodburn.  Our students have created some fun activities, like making welcoming postcards, creating inspirational person projects from across the world, participating in Celebrating Us All read-a-louds, and recording special announcements for Wolf Pack News. We welcome all students to join our student equity team to create a positive school community.

Woodburn Birthday Book Club (All Grades!)

Advisor: Nikki Sturges

Woodburn Wolves who want to celebrate their birthday by donating to the library can sign up to be a part of our Birthday Book Club. During their birthday month, they are invited for a special visit to the library, where they can choose a brand new library book to check out. We put a nameplate inside and a birthday candle sticker on the book’s spine to commemorate their special day. We take a picture of them with the book and send it to their family. The student gets to be the first to check out that new book. When it is returned to the library, it becomes a part of our permanent collection for everyone to check out. Our Wolves love to check out birthday books and see who donated these special books!

Safety Patrol: (Grade 5)

Advisor: Melissa Dolan

Responsible fifth graders serve as crossing guard support during arrival for the Woodburn Wolves.  Under adult supervision, these students help others cross safely to school.  They serve our school in the sun, sleet, rain, and snow!  We are grateful for their leadership.  Students are selected for Safety Patrol based on qualities of citizenship, responsibility, and kindness shown at school.

PE Sidekicks (5th Grade)

Advisor: Ixel Olivas & Sarah MacDonald

Woodburn 5th graders join primary PE classes as model leaders for our young wolves. The role of a PE Sidekick is to model sportsmanship, participation, and leadership. Our PE Sidekicks follow the direction of our PE teachers to help our younger students learn skills, feel successful, and enjoy PE. Applications are available in the fall for all 5th graders.

Woodburn Talent Show (All Grades!)

Advisor: Allison Fraser

Each spring, Woodburn celebrates the talents of all the Wolves. Students can share their special talents of song, dance, martial arts, parkour, musicianship, etc. If you have a talent to share, then look forward to our Spring Showcase.  Every submission is reviewed by our Talent Show coordinators and ongoing communication with families. This is a special tradition for the Wolf Pack.

Wolf Pack News Crew (5th Grade)

Advisor: Nikki Bye

All 5th graders can participate on the Wolf Pack News crew throughout the school year. The WPN Crew produces our daily news program to highlight the weather, lunch menu, Wolf Pride Character Traits, and special events. Every classroom at Woodburn starts the day with Wolf Pack News.

Choir (4th & 5th Grade)

Advisor: Fauna Woolfe

Although our choir program is focused on 4th and 5th-grade students, Ms. Risinger plans for 1st through 5th-grade students to have performances throughout the school year. Our school choir program meets after school and offers performances during school assemblies, community centers, and special community events.
