October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a time to reinforce our shared commitment to fostering a culture of belonging and safety in the Camas School District. Our strategic plan emphasizes creating inclusive environments where every student feels seen, valued, and supported. Students, families, teachers, and staff all have a role in promoting respect and preventing bullying across our schools. Here are a few ways we address bullying prevention in our district:
Stopping Bullying on the Spot
In Camas, everyone plays a part in preventing bullying. Aligned with our goal of building a culture of safety and belonging, we educate students on how to seek help, show kindness, and support one another. Our efforts are centered around creating environments where students can engage, learn, and thrive. To support these conversations at home, visit stopbullying.gov for more resources.
Strong Relationships
Strong relationships are at the heart of our district’s efforts to build a culture of respect and inclusion. Programs such as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) are crucial to fostering a sense of community and belonging. These initiatives, aligned with our Strategic Plan, ensure that students who feel safe and supported can fully engage in their learning and succeed academically.
Positive Digital Citizenship and Responsible Social Media Use
In today’s digital world, students need to understand how to navigate online spaces safely and respectfully. At Camas, we use Common Sense Media’s curriculum to teach students about digital citizenship, starting in kindergarten. Lessons focus on privacy, media balance, online behavior, and preventing cyberbullying—helping students build a responsible and respectful digital presence.
