CHS families: Next week on March 4 and 5 in the CHS wrestling room, the Camas Sports Medicine Club is hosting Providence Heart and Vascular Institute’s PlaySmart team and will be conducting FREE EKG/ECG heart screenings to any interested students during the school day.
PlaySmart has conducted over 40,000 heart screenings to students in the Portland Metro area over the past 6 years and has identified over 1,500 youth for free follow up evaluations based on abnormal EKG/ECG results. These painless evaluations are crucial components to any comprehensive health screening but are often not included in most “well-child” checkups and even some pre-participation sports physicals. Cardiac screenings are a crucial first step in detecting any one of a number of underlying conditions that may lead to sudden cardiac arrest, the number one killer of youth athletes in America. While rare, several problematic conditions may not show any warning signs prior to a cardiac arrest event so it is important to detect cardiac abnormalities as early as possible to prevent tragedy and keep the hearts of our students pumping for many years to come!
In order to participate in this free heart screening event, simply print and fill out the attached heart screening permission form and return it to the Heart Screening Info Booth in the CHS Main Commons during both lunches every day until the heart screenings. Students who turn in completed permission forms will sign up for a time to get screened at that time.
Please don’t hesitate to contact Jake Howell (Jacob.firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions related to the screening event.
