Camas School District is making significant progress towards achieving key goals outlined in its strategic plan, with four key workgroups driving progress in critical areas of student learning and support. The three goals outlined in CSD’s Strategic Plan include creating a Culture of Safety and Belonging, ensuring High-Quality Instruction, and building Responsive Pathways. These efforts are driven by collaborative workgroups of educators and leaders who are turning vision into action.

Superintendent John Anzalone emphasized the significance of this work, sharing, “The work being done across our district by these dedicated teams reflects our unwavering commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed. By focusing on belonging, high-quality instruction, and responsive pathways, we are creating an environment where all students feel supported and inspired to reach their fullest potential.”

Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS): A Framework for Inclusive Learning

The MTSS workgroup, representing educators across the district, has worked diligently to establish consistency in providing academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports to students.  In October, the team established new leadership and refined their vision to focus on providing meaningful learning support for all students. Over the past few months, the team has aligned its vision with the district’s Strategic Plan and is conducting detailed reviews of Tier 1 practices across schools. This data will inform action planning to ensure all learners receive timely, personalized support.

Standards-Based Learning (SBL): Elevating Instruction and Assessment

The SBL workgroup has laid the foundation for consistent, high-quality instructional and grading practices. Recent efforts include analyzing feedback from family surveys on grading and exploring proficiency scales to support student growth. The group is actively developing strategies to align priority standards across grade levels and continues to explore ways to provide educators with collaboration time to refine instructional practices.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Supporting Whole-Child Development

The SEL workgroup is working to identify and implement a PreK-12 progression of SEL skills, including social and emotional learning practices, while expanding staff wellness and parent education opportunities. The workgroup has gathered critical insights from surveys and discussions with educators to identify trends and focus areas. Upcoming initiatives include refining wellness programming and enhancing the district’s caregiver education series to strengthen community support for student well-being.

Professional Learning and Curriculum (PL&C): Equipping Educators for Success

The PL&C team is developing a comprehensive plan, prioritizing professional learning and curriculum alignment. Workgroup members are engaged in drafting an action plan to audit current curriculum, create a professional learning survey, and enhance training opportunities. This collaborative effort ensures alignment with district goals and a shared focus on student success.

“The progress made by our workgroups is nothing short of remarkable,” said School Board President Tracey Malone, commending these efforts. “Their collaboration and focus on advancing our strategic goals are paving the way for meaningful improvements in student learning and well-being. It’s exciting to see how this work is shaping the future of education in our district.”

Through the dedication of these workgroups and the alignment of initiatives with the district’s strategic priorities, Camas School District is building momentum toward its vision of fostering belonging, academic excellence, and meaningful pathways for every student.
