The Camas Connect Academy is designed as a way for students to engage in the classroom without having to physically go to a school building on a regular basis.  This option is available for students who live in the boundaries of the Camas School District and would normally attend one of our district schools.  Relationships are key to learning and the CCA prioritizes personal connections as much as possible in a virtual classroom format.  This option is for students and families who are prepared for the unique challenges of virtual instruction.

Students who sign up for the Camas Connect Academy will join an online community staffed by CSD teachers and support staff.  It will be similar to going to school in person: grades will be given, direct instruction provided, attendance required, comprehensive lessons, and support.  The learning standards and learning goals will be the same as students in a physical classroom in the Camas School District.  The methods for achieving and demonstrating standards might be different, but the goals will be the same.

The Camas Connect Academy has been fashioned for students and families who want a yearlong, online option compared to the typical in-person experience. While all CSD students will start with remote learning, CCA students will remain remote when schools transition back into on-campus learning.  Students will be asked to enroll in the CCA during the summer of 2020 and wait until the end of the semester or trimester if they wish to transfer out of the program and back into the traditional school model.  This program is not designed to be a credit recovery program.  Students enrolled in the CCA will need to actively learn for a similar timeframe to on-campus, in-person school to be successful.

Is Camas Connect Academy Right For Your Family?

This is a very important question when considering this choice school in Camas.  We want to dispel a couple of misconceptions about online schooling:

Myth #1 - Online schooling is easier
The CCA actually requires that students complete 100% of the course before they earn credit.  Students will work anywhere from 3-6 hours a day on their courses.  Students must complete work by end-of-semester/trimester and keep up with progress schedules.  This is not an easy program, but we will support students in this work – student success is our goal!
Myth #2 - I can do a term’s work in a couple of weeks
Our students will maintain regular progress with their classes and keep in close communication with the staff.  We encourage students to complete school work each day, though there is flexibility for students to work when they have the time to work due to their own personal schedule.

Myth #3 - Technology will replace teachers and home support
Research shows that strong teaching and learning requires support from teachers and home.  Connections with staff and support from home are critical to student success in any educational system. (Hattie Research

Learning standards by grade level will be aligned with on-campus learning options. The CCA will utilize an online curriculum supported and enriched through the talent and expertise of a Camas School District instructor.

Grades 3-5Grades 6-8Grades 9-12
Elementary students in grades 3-5- will utilize CSD created curriculum that aligns with learning standards and experiences consistent with experiences across classrooms within the Camas School District. Learning activities will be thematic, engaging, and include components of project-based learning.  The primary difference between CCA 3rd, 4th, 5th-grade experience, and CSD neighborhood schools will be the planned year-long online learning experience for all students.  (Click here for a sample scope and sequence.)
