As we navigate learning remotely, we wanted to share some tips from our staff related to wellness, learning, and technology.

Taking care of your emotions
During this time at home, we’ve been growing our emotional muscles.  Emotional muscles include things like flexibility, frustration, tolerance, compassion, resiliency, and how to overcome boredom. Share with your kids the muscle-building you’ve been doing and ask them to name a few muscles they’ve built.

Supporting learning
Check-in with your student at the beginning and the end of each day. Starting the day: What work do you need to complete today? Do you have all the resources you need? If you get “stuck,” what can you do? What can I do to help? Ending of the day: What was something interesting you learned today? What are you most excited about? Do you feel like you are struggling with something?

Tech tips from the pros
Start good habits early. One secret to instilling healthy media use is to establish clear limits and stick to them. Creating a digital use agreement together as a family can help to communicate and pass on family values as well as address issues before they occur. Agreements might include items such as no device use during meal times and focused family time or devices only being used in common family spaces.

We hope you find these tips useful!
