Greetings Third – Fifth Grade Families,
Last Friday, Camas School District was able to quickly check Chromebooks out to students in grades 3-5 in response to Governor Inslee’s executive order to close schools. We intend that these devices can be used to help connect students to their teachers, their peers, and remote learning during this unprecedented time. (Staff members are currently working on that remote learning plan.)
Our students in grades 3-5 now join our middle and high school students in our Chromebook take-home program. We’d like to share with you the systems in place for online safety. The web filtering service we utilize is GoGuardian which operates on all of our Chromebooks, regardless of the Wi-Fi to which they are connected.
The GoGuardian system is designed to:
- Filter student internet use on our Chromebooks at all times;
- Help protect students against harmful and inappropriate online material;
- Help students stay focused when learning online;
The GoGuardian system is compliant with the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act as well as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. For more detailed information about GoGuardian, visit GoGuardian’s website, Trust & Privacy Center, and Product Privacy Policy.
Our Chromebooks are educational tools, and their use falls under the district’s Technology Acceptable Use Agreement. We encourage you to discuss rules for appropriate internet usage with your child and reinforce lessons of digital citizenship and safety with them. For ideas on best practices, please review the tips & resources for families at bit.ly/camaschrome.
If you have questions or need support for your Chromebook, contact support by phone at 360-833-5432 Monday-Friday from 8 AM – 3 PM or email at chromebook-help@camas.wednet.edu.
Sincerely,
Doreen McKercher, APR
