Even overachievers need to simplify things from time to time.
Triton Pitassi had taken on just a little too much in his first couple of years of high school. So he gave up one passion in order to excel in another.
This spring, Pitassi, a junior at Camas, is confident he will make it to the state track and field meet in shot put for the first time, possibly even medal.
He also is ranked No. 2 in Washington in the hammer throw, an event not sanctioned by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association but still with its own independent state championship.
Pitassi will not, however, be competing in bi-district and state tennis tournaments.
Austin Barr has more career hits than any Camas baseball player
Austin Barr laces a single into right field Friday, at Mountain View High School. In the first inning, the Camas High School senior crushed a 3-1 pitch over the left field fence for his 100th hit. Photo: Dan Trujillo.
As Austin Barr rounded the bases after hitting a home run in the first inning, it felt like it was going to be a better day for the Camas baseball team Friday.
But then Mountain View scored four runs in the bottom of the first to put the Papermakers in another hole they could not dig themselves out of. On Thursday, the Thunder shocked the Papermakers with a 10-0 victory on the Camas field. On Friday, they defeated the Papermakers 7-2 on their home field to capture the league championship.

Papermakers fare well at science fair
CHS takes home seven first-place awards and eight special awards
Camas High School showed that science is tops with a successful finish at the Washington State Science and Engineering Fair Saturday, March 31.
There were 540 projects entered in this year’s fair.
The Camas School District was represented with one project from Dorothy Fox Elementary and 15 from Camas High School. Nine parents accompanied their students to the fair.
According to advisor Ron Wright, a parent new to the science fair commented, “This feels like a ‘Big Bang’ convention. It is so refreshing to hear this techno-nerdy humor from all of these kids. I am so happy mine is here and I wish more parents would bring theirs.”
High points of the convention included fifth-grader Emily Sheppard placing first with her project “Elevation and Temperature.”
CHS also had a good showing with seven first-place, three second-place and four third-place awards, and eight special awards.
According to Wright, only one other high school had more project awards than CHS.
