This week’s HOPE & JOY comes from CTE Director, Derek Jaques. Thanks for sharing Derek!
The joy of life-long learning shows up throughout the spectrum of learners in our district. Whether it is the kindergarten student who gets up at 5 AM excited for day two of school (my own daughter), the middle school student who has created his own, “Spicy Milk” video series to chronicle his experience in the new PBL building, or Matt Chase riding his re-engineered electric longboard around Camas, they all demonstrate joy, hope, and passion for learning.
Over the summer, two CSD teachers had the opportunity to participate in forty hour externship experiences. Matt Chase, math teacher at Camas High, worked with engineers from Metroboard to help improve commuting skateboards. Suzie Downs, Marketing teacher at Camas High, had the opportunity to hone her skills in SoLoMo (social, local, mobile) marketing. Both came back to their teaching roles with new insights, connections, and skills to share with their students. Even more importantly, both came back with a rekindled fire and joy for the importance of their work with our students.
For more about their experience, please check out the article in the Post-Record.
Have a great day!
