From the LMC:

It's true! There is a tub in the library. It's a great claw foot tub that doesn't overflow with water, but rather, pillows. The tub was a part of my classroom when I first started my teaching career. When I became a librarian it seemed only fitting that the tub should be in the library. While it is one very distinctive part of the library, so are the theater seats and school library web site and me. I'm Connie Pappas, your child's library teacher.

Ten years ago I opened the Skyridge Library Media Center. It was a monumental task, and I loved every minute of it. How exciting it has been exciting to see our school evolve. September 27th marks Google's ninth birthday and I can't imagine a day without Googling something. I also can't imagine a day without books. I have three distinct roles; I am a teacher, a reading advocate and a program administrator. As a teacher I work with numerous classes throughout the week. It may involve a lesson on plagiarism, note taking and how to use district library databases or a book talk. I work closely with teachers to deliver first rate instruction on countless subjects throughout the school year.

In our first month of operation circulation is up over last year and students seem to enjoy their new library. I promote a book of the week each and every week of school on the in-house video system. In November I plan to launch the new, revamped Sky LMC web site. It will feature some pod cast book talks and other new features.

The basics: Students are allowed to check out four books and a magazine or five books for two weeks. Magazines are only checked out overnight. Students are permitted to come to the library (LMC) during lunch and before and after school. Every language arts class has a check out time each week, either Monday or Friday. But the virtual LMC is open all the time and you can find it by clicking on this link, http://www.camas.wednet.edu/sky/staff/lmc/index.html

Until next month... get caught reading!
