We will address the 5 main areas of math throughout the year, which include; number sense measurement geometric sense probability & statistics algebraic sense.
The skills in each of these areas are similar to those that are taught in the general education setting, we go at a slower pace and have the ability to re-teach concepts when necessary. I don’t typically use the “big” or “fancy” math terms until a skill is mastered, as I find that often times student psych themselves out of learning. While we work through the Mathematics Concepts text, we will also be working on individual needs and skills, as identified in their IEP’s.
HOMEWORK: Every Tuesday students are given homework. These assignments focus on basic skills that need continual practice. These assignments are graded and do impact students grades. Homework is due ever Thursday at the beginning of class. Because two nights are given to complete the assignment, late HW will not be accepted. *Both 7th and 8th grade students will take the Math WASL.
