This block class is similar to general education Language Arts classes at Skyridge. We cover much of the same content and skills, we just do it in a slightly different style. Class is very structured and we follow a routine, which is beneficial to many students with learning difficulties. Each week we will cover all of the following areas of study: Spelling/Vocab (contracts) Weekly Spelling/Vocab Tests Writing for different purposes Writing conventions Journal writing Decoding (basic reading skills) Comprehension Independent reading Accelerated Reader Oral presentations Read a-louds
HOMEWORK: Contracts are assigned every Monday (or first school day of the week). This assignment is their only HW for Rdg/Writing. It is due every Thursday—even if a student has missed a day of school. Students get only a short time on Monday to get started on this activity. It will be homework. For specifics on the requirements of Contracts please click the link on the left entitled “Contracts”. *Both 7th and 8th grade students will take the Reading WASL. *Only 7th grade students will take the Writing WASL. |
