Welcome to the Dorothy Fox Music Class website.

Students at Dorothy Fox have music twice a week for 30 minute sessions.

Our music room is equipped with a Yamaha keyboard lab, classroom set of guitars, African drums, Orff instruments and a wide variety of percussion instruments.

A choir experience is offered to students from grades 2 – 5 throughout the school year, and 5^th grades have the opportunity to join beginning band classes before school.

All students participate in a musical performance during the school year.

CURRENT STUDIES:

All grade levels also are studying a different family of instruments from the orchestra. Students have an opportunity to listen and play available instruments as well as take a short quiz on the instruments.

During the week of Feb. 19 -25^th, our school is hosting an artist in residence working with all students during their music time. Michael Allen Harrison is a composer, pianist that will help each class write and record their own song. A culminating assembly will be held on Monday, Feb. 25^th at 2:15 where each class will perform their creation. Many thanks to our Fox PTA for sponsoring this event.

Kindergarten will have their annual Farm Program on June 2nd. This program will take place in the music room.  Watch for more information about times for each particular class.

The third grade music program was held on March 13^th at 2:15 in the gym. All third grade classes studied the continents and music from countries around the world.

Each first grade class will be presenting a musical program on the topic of animals during the month of May.  This supports their unit of study in the classroom on mammels and a trip to the zoo.  Watch for information about the date and time for each class room.

Fifth graders will be presenting their musical in June. This year we are working on a multi-cultural theme in a production called Salute To America.

The second/third grade choir has begun their after school rehearsals. They are working on the music called Mighty Minds that will be presented an evening in May.
