Our spelling curriculum is the Rebecca Sitton approach to learning and correctly spelling high frequency words. There are 1200 words in Sitton Spelling Sourcebook Series by Egger Publishing, Inc.
Fifth graders are responsible for words 1 through 675 this year.
The words listed below (#501-675) are the introduced core words in fifth grade.

There is NO weekly spelling list. There is a "No Excuses" spelling words list. The goal is that the "no excuse words" are spelled and used correctly in students' everyday writing. In fifth grade, words from 1 to 100 are considered priority spelling words, and all students are expected to spell the correctly 100% of the time. These are the most frequently used words in the English language.

Students are also exposed to "Topical Words" which are ones that correlate with our grade level reading, math, social studies and science curricula. We will be assessing student need by frequent spelling checks using their daily writing projects in all areas.
