Welcome

Hi!   Welcome to Helen Baller, a fun place to be yourself and grow.   I am the school social worker/counselor and would like to tell you a little about myself.   I have a Masters of Social Work and spent ten years working in a children’s mental health clinic as well as five years now at Helen Baller.  I have my Oregon License of Clinical Social Work and have been working with children and their families for most of my life.  I cannot think of anything I enjoy more than being around children of all ages.  My role at Helen Baller is to help our school be a place where children can relax, feel safe, and learn.

I do everything from hanging out on the playground to providing classroom lessons about feelings, bullying, how to resolve conflict, and anger management.  I use the Second Step and Steps to Respect curriculums for the classroom work.  Special small groups are offered throughout the year for children who are dealing with issues such as:  parents’ divorce, death of a loved one, friendship issues, or controlling anger.  Your child can request to meet with me or often teachers call me in for support.    I also take a lead in our character education program where, in consultation with a team, we develop ways to integrate a monthly theme into our daily work. We are always looking for ways to link these traits to a child’s life outside of school, so, if you have any ideas, please give me a call.   My job also includes facilitating our Building Intervention Team and working with Mr. Moss on discipline and behavior issues.

I pride myselif in trying to be available to parents to answer questions, link to resources, or support you in your work as a parent.   I love what I do so feel free to call me at any time.   I work Monday-Friday from 8:00 to 4:00.   My phone number is 833-5720, xt. 2352 or email me at edie.hagstrom@camas.wednet.edu
