Our Philosophy:

We believe that it is our primary purpose as educators to instill a life-long love for learning.  Every day we enter our classrooms, it is our responsibility to develop ways to help each individual student find his or her strength and build on that.  Likewise, helping students to identify weaknesses allows them to realize that we are all unique and have areas to develop.  In this way, we hope to become more than just teachers, but facilitators, friends, mentors and supporters.  Our goal would be that each child leave us with an enthusiasm for learning in every subject area that will carry on into adulthood.

To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

The Buzz in Rooms 7 and 8

All About Mrs. Burton and Mrs. Hassel

Mrs. Burton was born in Port Angeles, WA in 1967 to a first grade teacher (mom) and a ninth grade English teacher (dad).  When she was 3, her brother Marc was born and he became her first student.  She knew she wanted to be a teacher, even then.  Her family moved to Washougal in 1976.  She grew up on a farm in the Sunnyside area of Washougal and graduated in 1986 form Washougal High School.

She attended Clark Community College to earn an AA Degree.  Then transferred to Western Washington University where she earned a BA in Elementary Education.  She began a Masters of Arts program at Central Washington University in Special Education.  She has also completed a Master of Science Program in Reading and Literacy through Walden University with Mrs. Hassel.

Her husband Jonathan is a 7th grade math teacher at Skyridge Middle School.   Her children, Nicholas and Charlotte are both in school in the Camas School District.  They enjoy spending time with friends and family, biking and going to the beach together.

Mrs. Hassel was born and raised in Whitefish, Montana. Her mom was an 8th grade English Teacher and her dad was a principal at a rural school.  Teaching is in the genes!

She attended college at the University of Montana (GO GRIZ!) in Missoula and received her degree in Marketing.  She worked in the insurance industry for a few years after arriving in Billings and then became a legal secretary.  After her children were in school, she returned to school at Montana State University –Billings and received her teaching credentials.

In the middle of this craziness, she married  her husband, Dana.  They have three wonderful children, Tiffany (who is still in Billings), Jesse and Brittany.

She has been teaching in Camas for five years and recently completed a Masters of Science Degree in Reading and Literacy from Walden University.
