Students strike yoga poses during a recent gathering of the CHS Yoga Club

Started this school year by senior Ella Neumann as part of her senior project, the Camas High School Yoga Club focuses on the importance of taking a moment of pause in a stressful day. Each meeting has a different focus and a yoga sequence that helps all students and staff stretch and be mindful.

Ella is also partnering with the CHS Counseling Team the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month to help build stress management tools through pausing practice.

Says Club Founder Ella Neumann, “I decided to start Yoga Club because I believe that students need an outlet at school to breath and take a pause. Through practicing yoga and stretching, I have seen a difference in how I approach my day and how I treat the students around me. When we take a moment to reflect on ourselves, we become better people. This is what Yoga Club is about.”

The Camas High School Yoga Club is a safe place for all members. Members with every level of yoga experience are welcome. “Participating in yoga as a CHS community creates a loving and accepting school environment,” she explains. Participants are invited to join in on Tuesdays after school from 2:20-2:50 PM, and on Fridays from 7:30-8:00 AM.

Ella adds that yoga helps create a sense of well-being and calm. It improves muscle tone, flexibility, strength and stamina, concentration and creativity, circulation, digestion, balance, mind/body connection, posture, and agility. Yoga also reduces stress, tension, and blood pressure, decreases stored fat, and boosts self-esteem.
