>> UPDATE: Ninth-Grade PBL Program Info Night Date Change <<
This letter was originally emailed to families of eighth-grade students on May 12, 2017.
Dear 8th grade parents,
We are pleased to share that plans are in place to launch a 9th grade cohort of 50-60 students at our Project-Based Learning (PBL) program this coming fall. If we have enough interest by June 2, we will set our plan in motion to begin our full-time freshman program in our middle school facility (now officially called Odyssey Middle School) this coming September. As an added bonus, students in the program would be offered automatic enrollment in our new PBL high school (Discovery High School), opening on our campus in the fall of 2018, for their sophomore year!
Our program aims to increase student engagement by teaching standards through real-world problems and challenges. While traditional methods of instruction are still a part of our daily routine, we strive to make connections by integrating core subjects while developing our students’ 21st century success skills of collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity. Interested Camas School District students simply need to fill out our student interest form for consideration. There are no admission requirements. If interest exceeds capacity, a lottery system will be employed.
Here are some additional logistics to consider for the 2017-18 school year:
- Freshmen would attend our program full time and be served by a core team of 3 teachers.
- Students would have the opportunity to earn 6.5 credits, keeping them in line with the graduation requirements for all CSD students (credit details available on our website).
- Transportation will be provided, including an activities bus for clubs and athletics at CHS.

Of course, all of our high school programs offer safe, supportive, and productive environments for students to learn and thrive. We are excited to offer this new opportunity for freshmen to tackle content and real-world problems in a small, engaging, and personalized learning environment while developing 21st century success skills to help them launch into their futures. It is because of your continued support that we have been able to create great options for our kids. Thank you!
