This year, all Camas schools are participating in the TREX Film Plastic Recycling Challenge, which runs from November 15, 2016, through April 15, 2017.

Students, staff, family, and friends and invited to bring in plastic bags and plastic wrap to a designated bin at a Camas school. Each stash will be weighed and recorded monthly until the competition’s end. After the materials are turned in, TREX will transform them into composite lumber, saving the plastic from adding to the landfill or clogging up sorting machines at the recycling center.

The winning school—which will be announced on Earth Day,  April 22, 2017—will receive a TREX bench.

What can be recycled?

  • Grocery bags
  • Bread bags
  • Case overwrap
  • Dry cleaning bags
  • Newspaper sleeves
  • Ice bags
  • Wood pellet bags
  • Ziploc and other reclosable bags
  • Produce bags

  • Cereal bags

All plastic must be clean, dry, and free of food residue.
