It is the mission of our ELL Program to advance the language development of English Language Learners through rigor, engagement, and collaboration to ensure that all of our students are competent, confident and college/career ready.

Over 200 students representing 15 different languages and cultures receive ELL services in the Camas School District. The most common languages are Spanish, Russian, and Chinese.

The English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPs) provide teachers with learning targets for these students who are learning English language literacy skills along with their grade level content knowledge and skills.

Who Qualifies?

The Washington State Home Language Survey (a part of our enrollment packet) helps identify students who might benefit from ELL services. The Washington English Language Proficiency Assessment (WELPA) Placement Test is then used to determine eligibility for services. Students remain eligible for services until they score a Level 5 on the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) – which is given annually in February/March.
