Even overachievers need to simplify things from time to time.

Triton Pitassi had taken on just a little too much in his first couple of years of high school. So he gave up one passion in order to excel in another.

This spring, Pitassi, a junior at Camas, is confident he will make it to the state track and field meet in shot put for the first time, possibly even medal.

He also is ranked No. 2 in Washington in the hammer throw, an event not sanctioned by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association but still with its own independent state championship.

Pitassi will not, however, be competing in bi-district and state tennis tournaments.

As Austin Barr rounded the bases after hitting a home run in the first inning, it felt like it was going to be a better day for the Camas baseball team Friday.

But then Mountain View scored four runs in the bottom of the first to put the Papermakers in another hole they could not dig themselves out of. On Thursday, the Thunder shocked the Papermakers with a 10-0 victory on the Camas field. On Friday, they defeated the Papermakers 7-2 on their home field to capture the league championship.

The Prune Hill fifth grade students visited the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall last week to see the Portland Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. They learned about concert etiquette, listening critically, and the instruments of the orchestra.

The Philharmonic and Conservatory Orchestras perform four concerts for over 10,000 school children in grades 3-8 at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall each year. These concerts introduce children to classical music in a concert hall setting in a more informal way than the evening concerts. They include segments such as Meet the Instruments and Be a Conductor.
