Middle School Pre-AP

Over the past decade, the number of Advanced Placement courses at Camas High School as well as the numbers of students enrolled in these classes has increased dramatically.  The Camas School District has moved in this direction knowing that all students can perform at rigorous academic levels.

A second important premise is the belief that we can prepare every student for higher intellectual engagement by starting the development of skills and acquisition of knowledge as early as possible. Addressed effectively, the middle and high school years can provide a powerful opportunity to help all students acquire the knowledge, concepts, and skills needed to engage in a higher level of learning.  Camas teachers and administrators have attempted to design Pre-AP courses—focusing primarily on English and social studies content—that provide our students with these advanced skills and practice to prepare them for success at the high school level.

Advanced Math

It is a goal of the Camas School District to provide a rigorous and motivational mathematics curriculum for all students.  Students in grades 6-8 may also qualify for advanced math sections which cover more content at a faster pace.  Many of these students will complete algebra in the 8th grade—acquiring high school credit at the same time.  Placement in mathematics courses is determined by a variety of factors including performance on criterion referenced tests, teacher recommendation, and standardized state achievement test scores.
