High School Mathematics

Below is the Mathematics four-year high school sequence chart: Students enter the ninth grade at the level of their ability and need to complete a minimum of two years of Mathematics for HS graduation. College bound students need a minimum of two years of Algebra and one year of Geometry. Many universities recommend four years of mathematics. Progression is dependent on the recommendation of the student's Math teacher and students may not always stay in the described sequence. Vocational/Business math class may be used by any student as make-up Math credit.

INTEGRATED ALGEBRA/GEOMETRY I
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Math
Prerequisite: Instructor's recommendation
Bridge to Algebra (Integrated 1) combines software, text and classroom instruction covering number sense, geometry, measurement, probability and statistics, and algebra.  In addition, it emphasizes problem solving and mathematical literacy.

INTEGRATED ALGEBRA/GEOMETRY II
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Math
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Integrated Alg/Geom I & instructor's approval
Our Algebra (Integrated 2) curricula uses software, text and classroom instruction that uses students' intuitive problem-solving abilities they learned in Integrated 1 to help them comprehend and master higher-order mathematical concepts like solving linear equations, systems of equations, quadratics and more complex geometric concepts.

ALGEBRA I
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Math
Prerequisite: Math 8 with at least a C grade & instructor's approval
Major: Math
This course will emphasize graphing, solving problems with equations, ratios, probability, similarity, direct variations, and modeling data using linear equasions. Students who excel in this course will be prepared to take Geometry.

GEOMETRY
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Math
Prerequisite: Algebra I (1-2) with at least a C grade & instructor's approval
Major: Math
This course has two primary goals: the development of clear and logical thinking; and the ability to solve practical problems. To accomplish this, students will perform geometric investigations. These investigations will lead to geometric discoveries. The newly discovered goemetric properties, along with prior knowledge, will be applied to real world problems. Among the topics covered in this course are inductive reasoning, geometric constructions, properties of lines, angles, triangles, polygons, circles, area, volume, and the Pythagorean Theorem.

ALGEBRA II
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Math
Prerequisite: Geometry with a grade of at least C and instructor's approval
Major: Math
This course reviews and extends the study of the real number system used in Algebra I and Geometry. A numerical, graphical and symbolic approach to the study of linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions will be emphasized. The student who masters the material offered in Algebra II will be prepared to take a first-year Pre-Calculus course in college or College Algebra Prep. It is highly recommended that students in this course purchase a TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator.

COLLEGE-ALGEBRA PREP
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Math
Prerequisite: Senior standing, Algebra II or Pre Calculus, and instructor's approval
Major: General Science
A course for seniors that allows them course work in math that fills the area between Algebra II and Pre Calculus. The core topics are presented to students numerically, graphically, and symbolically. These topics and their applications include patterns, recursions, sequences, statistics, data analysis, functions, parametric equations, trigonometry, exponential and logarithmic functions, topics in discrete mathematics, probability and statistics. There will be some review of topics from Algebra II. The main objective is to prepare students for their first year of Algebra in college. It is highly recommended that students in this course purchase a TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator.

PRE CALCULUS
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Math
Prerequisite: Algebra II (3-4) with a grade of C or higher and instructor's approval
Major: Engineering & Science; General Science; Math; Science Teaching
This course is designed for the math student who plans to take calculus or the student who wants to be prepared for the technical working world of trigonometry, statistics, and mathematical modeling. Trigonometric and circular functions, statistics, models, transformations and probability will be taught using a numerical, graphical and symbolic approach. The student who excells will be prepared to enter a calculus course or college level math for science and engineering. It is highly recommended that students in this course purchase a TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator.

CALCULUS AP
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Math
Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus ( at least a C+ grade) and instructor's approval
Major: Engineering & Science; Math
This course is recommended for students planning a career in Business, Science, Mathematics, or Engineering. The core Calculus topics are presented to students numerically, graphically, and symbolically. These topics include limits and continuity, differentiation and integration of algebraic and transcendental (trigonometric, logarithmic, and exponential) functions and applications. It is highly recommended that students in this course purchase a TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator. Students will have the opportunity to take the Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB Exam (cost $80-$85) in May.

CALCULUS II
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Math
Prerequisite: AP Calculus and instructor's approval
This course is designed for students who have taken AP Calculus and want to further their understanding of Calculus. The topics will include techniques of integration, applications or the integral, infinite series, and parametric, vector, and polar function. There will also be a thorough review of derivates and integration. It is highly recommended that students in this course purchase a TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator.

APPLIED MATH APPLICATIONS (Business Math)
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Occupational Ed., Math, Elective
Prerequisite Keyboarding or Digital Communication Tools, at least Sophomore standing
Major: Advertising; Family & Personal Management; Finance; Horticulture

Applied Math consists of modular material prepared for students in developing and refining job related math skills. The course will focus on arithmetic operations, problem-solving techniques, estimation of answers, measurement skills, geometry data, handling simple statistics, and the use of algebraic functions to solve problems. This class may be used to fulfill a Math requirement.
