CHS Learning Communities

The highly educated Camas High School staff challenges students to learn in a way that best prepares them for the future. Learning and growing in a small-school setting is important to teachers, students, and their families. CHS utilizes teaching teams so a group of students can stay together with the teacher for half of their school day.

Personalization also occurs by having students follow a chosen career path and declare a major. That way, each Camas High School student has a ready-made road map to success throughout his/her high school experience and beyond. From International Studies and Advertising, to Web Page Design and Performing Arts, the new high school offers an abundance of creative, technical, and academic fields of study.

Career Guidance

The Freshman Focus class and the Career Center staff help students explore career interests that fit their abilities and values. Tours of companies, speakers from local businesses, and internship opportunities are available.

Technology abounds

  • State-of-the-art technology enhances teaching and learning at Camas High School. The school features:
  • Ceiling-mounted LCD projection in each classroom to facilitate presentation and learning
  • Multiple drop-in computer labs for full-class use, totaling over 140 workstations
  • Wireless computer labs for roaming

A popular technology support class and a Microsoft certification training program put students on the cutting edge of technology education. Enrollment in advanced technology courses at CHS continues to increase each year. Among the most popular classes are Web Site Design, Computer Diagnostics and Repair, CAD, and Video Productions.

Credit Union

A full-service branch of the IQ Credit Union is operated on the campus of CHS. Students are trained as member service representatives and are responsible for performing financial transactions. Students learn to apply advanced accounting, communication concepts, and leadership skills developed in the various business courses.

Papermaker Preschool

Students interested in early childhood education have the unique opportunity to work directly with preschool and pre-kindergarten children on the high school campus. They are actively involved in the curriculum development and one-on-one mentoring opportunities with youngsters. The program includes working with children enrolled in the special education program.

Digital Arts

To complement a traditionally strong arts program in sculpture, ceramics, pottery, drawing and painting, students can now take advantage of several new offerings where creative arts and the latest technology come together. The digital art, design and cartooning class focuses on computer generated and manipulated images, drawings, and compositions. A variety of computer programs allow students to alter scanned images and photos, create original computer drawings and paintings, and lay out interesting and unique compositions. The class also features basic cartooning skills and storyboarding.

"There is no doubt that we are expecting more of our students and our schools than we did 20 years ago – we have to if we’re going to stay socially responsible and
economically competitive."

-Dr. Terry Bergeson, Superintendent of Public Instruction
