Career and Technical Education

Many Camas students are interested in fields of study outside the traditional academic programs. That’s why Camas maintains one of the strongest vocational education programs in the region, offering job-training skills and technical courses in a variety of fields and career tracks.

From the time students enter CHS as freshmen and throughout their high school experience, a variety of vocational and technical training opportunities are available. The Freshman Focus class and the Career Center staff help students explore career interests that fit their abilities and values, whether they want to pursue college, vocational training/technical school, or enter the workforce after high school.

Some examples of vocational offerings include working in the IQ Credit Union CHS branch office to gain skills in financial transactions, accounting, and customer service. Students can also gain child development experience working in the Papermaker Preschool Program where they have the unique opportunity to work with preschoolers, curriculum development and one-on-one mentoring opportunities. Graphic design, food and nutrition, photography, and vehicle design and construction are other examples of programs available to students exploring technical careers.

Several CHS juniors and seniors also attend the Clark County Vocational Skills Center, a cooperative venture that provides advanced vocational training in sixteen different occupational programs.
