Camas Alternative Program

The goal of the Camas Alternative Program (CAP) is to reach those students who are at risk for failure and drop out by providing an alternative method of imparting instruction and course work necessary for high school completion.

The program offers three enrollment options:

  • Full-time: students who attend all day or only the CAP program
  • Part-time: students who attend half of the day at CHS and the other half at CAP
  • Independent Study: students who are required to be in class a minimum of one hour weekly and log 24 hours at home

Expected outcomes include:

  • Improving WASL performance
  • Improving graduation rate
  • Improving ability to meet Adequate Yearly Progress as part of the No Child Left Behind Act
  • Decreasing discipline statistics
  • Producing students who are better prepared to be contributing and successful citizens of the community
  • Meeting the mission of the district which is to provide the students with the abilities to communicate effectively, reason, be self confident, possess mental and physical health, and work effectively with others

Logistics

  • All students have a Student Learning Plan
  • Classes are conducted in nine-week quarters
  • Students take 2-3 courses at a time
  • Students can earn 6-8 credits a year

CAP

This program targets over 100 students who, for a variety of reasons, are not successful in the traditional high school environment. For more information, contact program director Amy Holmes at 360-833-5553.
