Boundary ExceptionsIn March, 1990, the Washington State Legislature adopted the Family Choice Law (RCW 28A.225.220), a law relating to student enrollment options. Family Choice essentially allows parents to "shop" for schools which best meet their child's needs, within certain limitations. If a parent would like to transfer a student from one district to another, the parent must request a release from the district in which they reside and request acceptance from the district in which the student wants to enroll. The resident school district must allow the student to attend school in another district if:
A resident district may deny a transfer request if it would adversely affect the district's desegregation plan or if none of the above conditions exist. The student and parent/guardian are responsible for transportation between the student's home and school of choice. The districts accepting applications from nonresident students for admission are required to adopt a policy establishing rational, fair, and equitable standards for acceptance and rejection of applications. (RCW 28A.225.225) Camas school district will deny boundary exception applications into the district when the average class size per grade at any school reaches 2 students below the contract limit. Contact limits are as follows: Grades K-4, 25:1 |
TidbitOn average, the Camas School District releases more students than excepts into the district. |
