Historical Background

Camas School District patrons have demonstrated a willingness to invest in quality facilities for their students. In 1994, voters approved a $30.3 million bond issue primarily earmarked for a new middle school. They also supported a $57.3 million bond in 1999 to build Prune Hill Elementary, Camas High School, a new transportation facility, and a classroom wing at Dorothy Fox Elementary and to remodel Liberty Middle School (the former high school building), which opened in the fall of 2006.

In 2007, voters approved a $90 million school construction bond and a six-year replacement technology levy. The bond authorizes the district to build two new elementary schools, completely replace Helen Baller Elementary and Doc Harris Stadium, and expand Lacamas Heights Elementary, Dorothy Fox Elemenartary, Camas High School, Hayes Freedom High School and bus parking at the transportation center.

Through state matching funds, impact fees, and investment earnings, the district was able to capitalize on the local bond funding. For example, the $57.3 million 1999 bond grew to more than $80 million for construction projects!
