ACCOUNTING & ADVANCED ACCOUNTING

The study of accounting, sometimes referred to as bookkeeping, prepares students for employment in business. The student learns the language and problems of business, key pad proficiency, and will be introduced to computer accounting. Advanced accounting is more independent and in-depth.

APPLIED MATH APPLICATIONS (Business Math)
Credit: 1.00 (Year) or .50 (Semester) Occupational Ed., Math, Elective

Applied Math consists of modular material prepared for students in developing and refining job related math skills. The course will focus on arithmetic operations, problem-solving techniques, estimation of answers, measurement skills, geometry data, handling simple statistics, and the use of algebraic functions to solve problems. This class may be used to fulfill a Math requirement.

This course studies the following topics: What an office is and its place in an organization, human relations on the job, time and task management, records administration and technology, processing mail, telecommunications, advancing your career, and leadership development. The use of computers is an important component of this class.

COMMUNICATIONS BLOCK
Credit: 2.00 (Year, 2 periods) Business English 12 & CWI requirement
As many as 10 college credits may be earned at
Clark College for this class through a vocational articulation program.

Communications is an integrated class that combines Business English/Applied Communications (English 12), Entrepreneurship, Law, and American Government into a hands on class. It is designed for business/law oriented students who are entering the world of business , a vocational school, a community college, or a four year college or university. It is recognized as an English/CWI program by ALL colleges. As in all senior English classes, the Senior Project is required.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE TRAINING (CRT)
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Occupational Ed., Elective
Prerequisite: Junior or Senior Standing; Application with instructor & employer

This is a non-paid Work Based Learning program. Students will be employed in the community and will receive credit when they have successfully completed the CRT requirements and the designated hours of documented work. This mentorship/ 11 internship, non-paid work experience gives the student a valuable hands-on experience. Students will receive credit based on their performance at the work site, completion of school assignments and paperwork related to the program, and a minimum of 90 hours of work per semester.

DIGITAL COMMUNICATION TOOLS ( KEYBOARDING)

Students will increase their speed and accuracy using a computer. Microsoft Windows, Word, and Voice Recognition Software will be used to prepare a variety of documents for school, business, and personal use. This class is a prerequisite for advanced computer skill courses.

FINANCIAL SERVICES: CREDIT UNION

Prerequisite: Junior/Senior standing- Interview and approval

Financial Services students operate a full-functioning Camas Campus Branch of the Clark County School Employees Credit Union. Each student will be trained as a member service representative and will be responsible for performing financial transactions in this branch. This class is designed to provide students with an opportunity to apply advanced accounting, communication concepts, and leadership skills learned in business courses. Students are encouraged to be active members of FBLA and participate in local conferences and chapter activities.

FRESHMAN FOCUS (Ninth grade only)

This required class assists students with a smooth transition from middle school to Camas High School. Students will learn strategies for success in high school and beyond, explore CHS career pathways and majors, develop technical skills, and explore career and educational options after high school.

MARKETING 1-2
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Occupational Ed., Elective
Prerequisite: None
Major: Finance; Horticulture; Marketing; Sports & Entertainment

The student will be introduced to basic marketing concepts including advertising, sales, economics, distribution, and small business management. Marketing will prepare students for a college business major or for entry level employment into a marketing related occupation. Students may be expected to assist with operation of the Student Store. All students are expected to participate in leadership activities through DECA ( An Association of Marketing Students), and are encouraged to compete at local conferences, help with CHS DECA’s Program of Work, and sponsored community activities.

MARKETING 3-4
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Occupational Ed., Elective
Prerequisite: “B” or better in Marketing 1-2 or instructor approval
Major: Finance; Marketing; Sports & Entertainment

This advanced course contains further study of marketing and business fundamentals as well as market research and entrepreneurship. Through DECA (An Association of Marketing Students) emphasis will be placed on advanced competitive events, such as written events, ad campaigns, and team events. Students will also develop business professional skills in preparation for entering marketing and management employment.

STUDENT STORE (BUSINESS MARKETING)

The goal of this class is to provide the advanced marketing students with a lab forum to apply the marketing concepts they have learned throughout the program. Students will assume the responsibility for the complete operation and management of the Student Store. This includes supervision, ordering from venders, inventory, sales, promotion, and bookkeeping. Students will be expected to participate in all DECA activities.

STUDENT STORE LAB (Zero Period)

Prerequisite: Junior/Senior Standing - Marketing 1-2 and instructor approval

The goal of this class is to provide students with the opportunity to work in a lab setting and to acquire basic employability skills. This includes cashiering, customer service, punctuality, organizational skills, stocking, merchandising, and store readiness.

TECHNICAL COMMUNICATIONS 1 & 2
Credit: .50 (each Semester) Occupational Ed., Elective
Prerequisite: Keyboarding or Digital Communication Tools
Major: Business Communication; Desktop Publishing; Financial; Horticulture; Legal; Social Work/Teacher; Technical Communications

This course combines basic business communications with advanced keyboarding techniques. Students will have the opportunity to review the alphabetic, numeric, and 10-key keyboards while improving speed and accuracy. They will also study English, grammar, and vocabulary and apply what they learn through speaking and listening activities. They will compose letters, memos, and reports. Students will use Microsoft Office applying Word for word processing, Access for database, Excel for Spreadsheet, PowerPoint for presentations and Dragon 6 Naturally Speaking for voice recognition.

WORK BASED LEARNING (DO)
Credit: 1.00 (Year) Occupational Ed., Elective
Prerequisite: 16 to 18 years old
Major: Social Work/Teacher

The Worked Based Learning experience provides students with an opportunity to gain exposure to an occupational area related to their interests. This experience can help students identify some of the needed skills, knowledge, and preparation, desired for employees. It can also help the students understand the relevancy of their academic, technical, and classroom work. This is a paid experience, which is an integral part of specific school-to-work programs. Students will receive credit based on their performance at the work site, completion of school assignments and paperwork related to the program, and a minimum of 180 hours of work per semester
