Mock Trial is a club where high school students compete against each other using the same case. They argue their cane in front of real judges in real courtrooms, and have real attorneys score their performance. A new hypothetical case comes out every year. High school students portray a cast of courtroom characters such as defense attorneys, prosecution attorneys, defense witnesses, prosecution witnesses and bailiffs. Students receive guidance from volunteer attorneys and coaches in courtroom procedures, oratory, and trial preparation.

Each team consists of a defense team and a prosecution team. Teams present their case in a two-hour trial. During trial, each side presents the pre-trial motion. Next attorneys give their opening statements. Later, each of the four witnesses for both the prosecution and the defense are interviewed using direct examination and cross examination. Then the attorneys make their final case in a closing statement. At least two practicing attorneys critique and score each student's performance in each trial. Volunteer judges rule on the merits of the case.

Mock Trial is an outstanding program offered through the YMCA. Students who participate learn how to write and speak effectively, develop confidence, learn how to work as a team, and enhance leadership skills. Students are expected to obey the Mock Trial Rules , no alcohol, drugs, sex, smoking, offensive language, dress, or behavior. Any violation of this code of conduct will result in immediate expulsion from the program.

Tryouts are usually held during month of October. Students who pass the tryouts will be expected to pay $20.00 dues. These dues will cover students transportation and lodging costs for the competetions. Fundraisers will be held on an "as needed" basics and all students enrolled in the program will be required to participate.
