What is Knowledge Bowl??
|
Knowledge Bowl is a sport for the mind. Setup like Jeopardy, but for teams, Knowledge Bowl involves fast-paced thinking and teamwork. The knowledge bowl teams have meets, in which the teams will compete against those of several other schools. Questions are based on the topics covered in high school: such as math, science, history, language skills, literature, music, and geography, plus things like current events. Teams are made up of a maximum of 6 members. Meets begin with a written round of 50-60 questions. After that we compete in 2-3 oral rounds of 50-60 questions. The meets are usually run using a round robin system. Written Round: The written round is timed, and uses multiple choice questions. All 6 team members work on it at once. They work together to agree on the answers they wish to select, and then mark them on the answer sheet. Oral Round: During the oral round, three teams compete against each other. Each team may have no more than 4 members "in" at one time, although other members are allowed to substitute in during the round. As the reader reads questions, each team has the chance to "buzz in" by touching the team bar in order to answer. Once a team has buzzed in and been recognized, they have 15 seconds in which to discuss and then offer their answer, starting the answer with 'our teams answer is'. If that team answers incorrectly, the other teams will have the same chance to offer an answer in the order they buzz in. (See the rules and guidelines pages for more information and details.) Scoring -- In both the written and oral rounds, one point is awarded for a correct answer and no points are lost for wrong answers. Final results are determined by total points scored by each team in the written and oral rounds.
